DYMYSTIFICATION OF TINUBU; Yoruba chickens will always come home to roost.
To you that say Tinubu was not the principal architec of Buhari becoming a President, are you joking or just being frankly cunning?
Oya now be tutored;
Tinubu battled and defeated Atiku to bring the APC primary election to His backyard in Lagos as against Atiku's plan to hold it in Abuja and manoeuvre his way to victory using his expertise in money-bag Politicking. If that election was to take place in Abuja, Atiku was damn sure of victory. Abuja is his terrain and He could have beaten any candidate hands-down on that field of battle. Jonathan only enjoyed the aura of incumbency and greater access to public fund when Atiku stood against him in the then PDP primaries as the consensus Northern candidate after He outsmarted General Gusau and even your 'evil genius' to clinch that Northern ticket. You think IBB was not desperate enough?
Apart from bringing the APC convention to Lagos (Tinubu's Terrain), Tinubu also ensured Buhari got 100% votes of the South West candidates. In fact that was what gave Buhari the victory because Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano and Atiku along with Buhari shared the northern votes while Okorocha got substantial votes from the East. Tinubu made sure only Buhari got 100% votes in Yorubaland and that was the day you had the next president of Nigeria!
Tinubu's political stratagem had finished Jonathan long before 2015 election campaigns even started. He had damaged the brand 'GEJ' long before the clueless one opened his mouth and said "I will re-contest". A team of media propaganda led by Lai Muhammed had been commissioned by Tinubu and poised to put the ruling party on the defensive. Before the PDP would realise it, she had found herself acting like an opposition while still in power. Nothing was left, the ruling party began a belated struggle to survive an imminent drown it was billed never to survive in the political flood that ensued.
What did that practically translate to? It meant Goodluck Jonathan was Otuoke bound, He had been terminally evacuated of his political value. So, a vacuum had been created before the election and anything could fill it as long as it it was not Jonathan Goodluck. It could have been a stone, a statue, a Dove or goat but not just Mr Jonathan. Tinubu had done that clinical finishing before giving Buhari the victory in the APC primary, a kind of finishing before fishing. If Atiku, Kwankwaso or Okorocha had won, Jonathan would have still been defeated because He was damaged beyond re-considering. A pig would have still defeated Him! He was Finished!
Now some folks advance some rhetorics "Must Tinubu always win?"
We now ask "always win what?" What again has He won apart from Buhari's Victory in both the party's primaries and the presidential elections? Buhari picked him as his running mate but He suggested Osibajo, all in a bid to assuage the unfounded fear of Islamisation tendency of their party as perniciously rumoured and spread by some superstar political pastors thriving by prostituting their altars in adulterous alignment with public treasury plunderers. He supported a candidate for the Senate presidency and lost it, for the House of Representatives and lost it, Suggested ministerial nominees and turned down, Didn't want Fashola but lost it, didn't want Fayemi but lost it, etc etc.... Yet He remained committed to the party.
Today, some shallow minded individuals call for demystification of Bola Tinubu and dismantling his political dynasty because they can't see beyond their noses. It is Tinubu's doggedness and his political dynasty that has congealed the South Western region into such a formidable power bloc so reckoned as indispensable for any successful political alliance such as the one bringing Mr Buhari to Ask rock after three failed attempts serially. It was because Tinubu had successfully spread his political tentacles across all the states in Yoruba land that gave him the advantage of galvanising the most politically powerful and sophisticated region in southern Nigeria for Buhari victory and installation of the APC at the centre.
That is the same Buhari and APC that now think it is time to destroy the political dynasty that helped them come on board. The thinking is that even if the West would still be needed in a future eventuality, it must be fragmented and wrestled from one man solitary grip. Apart from the fact that such a notion sounds clearly stupid as it can only make work tedious for them in the future, they might need some head-sanitising lessons in historical Yoruba politics, which is timelessly woven around a solitary personality.
From the momentous dawn of documented Yoruba political awareness starting from Oduduwa, through Afonja/Solagberu, Awolowo, Adesanya, Abiola, down to Tinubu, A focal personality always occupies the Central space of Yoruba political awareness, being loved, hated, complimented, criticised, idolised and victimised as time goes by, who within the changing tides of circumstances navigates his way through and seen and acknowledged by majority of the tribe as the arrowhead of their political consciousness and tribal relevance in a given continuance of nationhood. That is the space Tinubu currently occupies whether you hate him or love him.
Whoever finds willing tools in the likes of Fasola and Fayemi in the current strife at demystifying Tinubu's hegemony may actually be darting truly deadly arrows but only at pure shadows, because the current 'cross-border' power frolicking will only endure to witness its own futile finitude. Yorubas chickens will always come home to roost. Hasn't that much been evident in their past political experiences? Didn't the entire Yoruba race including Awolowo's mortal foes suddenly agree He be acknowledged their overall leader and take in their stead a position for the tribe in the days that harbingered the Civil war with Biafra? Did they not crash party politics when threatened of interest as a tribe post June-12 and engage the brutal bayonets of Abacha's draconic days? Did they not throw away partisan politics and rally round OBJ in his second tenure despite being their most prodigal son?
Now, the South Western governors met few days back, citing charting a new course of agenda for the region as that which crashes their differences and uniting them in emerging circumstances. Arch enemies of Tinubu such as the deviant Kayode and Prodigal Fayose are swiftly crashing the existing dichotomy, acknowledging Tinubu as the Yoruba leader, who must never be allowed ridiculed and destroyed, yet you haven't seen the chickens coming home to roost.
It was because Yoruba chickens must always come home to roost that Nnamdi Azikiwe, who had established himself in Lagos and built a formidable political empire and scheming to become the Premier of the Western region was stripped of his popularity overnight in a dramatic emergence of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, causing the great Zik of Africa to scamper to his Eastern homestead, snatching the Eastern premier from his own Ibo kinsman. Invasion and Political domination is what the South West won't give a chance. No region does. Tell me of one that Will!
Tinubu has chosen a poisonous silence, no public speech, no interview, no letter, nothing. Just an unsettling silence echoing and deafening to those who seek his downfall. They try to issue statements of allegiance to their cause on his behalf, yet He freezes his foes in further silence. It shows a certainty of the APC victory in Ondo gubernatorial elections on Saturday is not as critical for the downfall of Tinubu as these ignorant folks suppose. Tinubu thrives better in political distress and victimisation. His best comes out when overwhelmed by superior fire arm. Ask Goodluck Jonathan, Ask Obasanjo. It is that Tinubu that those who have foresight now fear may subsequently Emerge!
AFETERTHOUGHT
To the Yoruba political activists accusing Raji Fashola of betrayal, I ask this question:
How has Fashola betrayed Tinubu? What do you actually expect him to do now that Tinubu is now being short-changed and dismantled by President Buhari and the APC? Do you expect Fashola to resign his appointment as a minister? an appointment Tinubu worked against in the first place? Or you simply want him to go against Buhari that saved his political career when Tinubu tried to dismantle it using Ambode?
